For Parents
Everything you need to know before your child studies abroad.
We understand this is one of the most important decisions your family will make. Here are the answers to every question parents ask us — honest, complete, and without sales pressure. Rules, costs and permits differ by country, so each answer points you at the destination page that states them.
PathPort was built with parents in mind.
For many families this is a decision parents make alongside their child, wherever they are. Every process we have built — fees shown as the institution publishes them, document tracking, and progress you can see at every stage — is designed to give you the same visibility as if you were there yourself.
The 6 questions every parent asks
Honest answers — no marketing language.
Is the destination safe for my child?
Safety is a fact about a place, not about PathPort, so we do not quote rankings at you. Every destination page carries published, sourced safety and student-life information — each figure with the authority it came from and the date it was checked — and where a destination has none, it says so rather than reassuring you with something we made up.
- Sourced safety information per destination
- Every figure carries its authority and date
- Students housed near their campus
- PathPort support while your child is there
What does it actually cost — total?
Cost depends on the programme and the institution, so PathPort shows the fee each institution has actually published rather than a band we invented. Every programme page lists its own tuition in its own currency, and each destination page carries source-backed living-cost information where it has been verified. If a figure is not published, we would rather show nothing than a number you cannot check.
- Tuition shown per programme, from the institution
- Costs shown in the currency they are charged in
- Source-backed living costs on the destination page
- No estimate presented as a fact
How will I stay in touch?
PathPort keeps parents informed through the application tracker and direct contact with your advisor, so you can see where your child's application stands without having to ask. Connectivity and the practical side of daily life are covered on each destination's student-life section.
- Application progress visible to you
- Direct line to your advisor
- Updates at each stage
- Student life covered per destination
Who handles the visa and documents?
The study-permit application is submitted by the enrolled institution directly to the destination's immigration authority — that is a regulatory requirement everywhere, not a PathPort choice. PathPort prepares the supporting documents, tracks the status, and passes on every update. For current processing times the authority is the source; we do not publish our own estimate.
- The institution submits it, as required
- PathPort prepares supporting documents
- Status tracked and shared with you
- Pre-departure checklist provided
What is the complete timeline?
The sequence is the same for every student — interest, institution selection, application, offer, permit, arrival — but how long each step takes depends on document readiness, the institution and the immigration authority. PathPort shows you the real status of your child's application at each stage rather than a promised duration.
- Every stage visible in the tracker
- Timing depends on the institution and the authority
- You are told when something needs action
- No promised turnaround we do not control
What are the career outcomes?
A qualification opens several routes — further study at a higher level, entry to a longer programme with advanced standing where an institution grants it, and employment where the qualification and the relevant work rights permit it. What any individual student is eligible for depends on their programme, their results and the immigration rules at the time, so PathPort links programmes to careers and employers through its knowledge graph instead of promising an outcome.
- Pathway to further study
- Advanced standing where an institution grants it
- Programmes linked to real careers and employers
- Eligibility depends on rules at the time, not on us
